GRINDERS HIGH NOON – Bringing Flavor & Fun to Historic Leavenworth, Kansas.

A NEW RESTAURANT BY KANSAS CITY’S WILDEST ARTIST, ENTREPRENEUR AND OUTRAGIOUS TELEVISION PERSONALITY, STRETCH.

Just barely a year after STRETCH's successful launch of his third GRINDERS Restaurant, GRINDERS@Stonewall, the WILDMAN is at it again, this time in historic Leavenworth Kansas.

GRINDERS HIGH NOON, Located at 206 Choctaw St Leavenworth, Kansas 66048 will celebrate its Grand Opening on Wednesday, October 28th 2015.

The Grinders High Noon Back Story; The 27,000 square foot, 3 story, historic building was built just after the Civil War as part of the Great Western Manufacturing Company complex. Cast iron stoves, like the one on display in our dining room, were built here and sold to pioneer families heading west. Remnants of the 19th century factory equipment can be found on all 3 levels of this grand old building. Rest your foot on the well-worn brass rail & touch history! Reportedly, in its prior location inside a local historic hotel, Abe Lincoln was said to have rested his presidential foot on this same brass rail. Where else but a Grinders can you touch history, while making your own?

The Next Chapter; Hometown friend, former Chief’s defensive tackle & NFL Rookie of the Year, Bill Maas, Director of Real Estate at Block & Company, Inc. began working with STRETCH last spring to acquire the property, which also contains a microbrewery – or as STRETCH calls it, a “mmMicrobrewery” – because it is “MMM MMM Good.” He goes on to say, “perhaps, we’ll name one of our artisanal beers after Bill & call it ‘Uno Maas,’” – a clever take on the Spanish phrase, uno mas, meaning “one more.” Whenever STRETCH gets a new idea, he mulls it around for a while inside his own head, involves his management team, and then when it is fully formed and ready to burst forth from the artistic mind of the mad genius, a plan of action emerges. Just six months later, a new, unique Grinders Pizza restaurant is about to open. “We all create in different ways. There is no right or wrong, no good or bad way to create – however, we all must grow and evolve, so long as we never forget from where we come and all the friends we have met along the way,” comments STRETCH.

The decor of GRINDERS HIGH NOON is part vintage rock-and-roll, part historic saloon, and part brand new. Vintage Union railroad station coffee urns get turned into beer taps, and repurposed go-cart tire light fixtures are hung over the bar, and even a tail-elevator sans trim tab from a retired DC-9 airplane becomes a new bar top. The whole space has been STRETCH-ified! With a complete remodel and redesign of the kitchen, and with the addition of a new open-air pizza preparation area, customers will now be able to watch the artistry of the chefs’ hand tossing and crafting each pie. As the restaurant continues to flourish so will the decor. Unlike chain restaurants who like to decorate with “bits and bobs” and bolt it down forever, Grinders High Noon, like all Grinders restaurants, keeps everything fresh by incorporating local art and periodically making subtle enhancements to give guests a different experience every time they visit. Not just a Sculptor, Restaurateur, Inventor, & Artist, STRETCH is also a Job Creator! With the opening of Grinders High Noon, 60 NEW JOBS have been created in the Leavenworth area, and overall they employ nearly 200 talented individuals.

Opening Grinders High Noon in Leavenworth holds a special spot in STRETCH’s heart. STRETCH continues to tour the globe, entertaining & feeding US military personnel with Messlords, a globetrotting troop of fellow celebrity chefs. “STRETCH loves the military and often puts on music shows and large scale BBQ’s for troops deployed in foreign and domestic military bases, and even on aircraft carriers! We urge you to visit both Grinders locations in KC Crossroads Art District and in Lenexa, KS to see what Grinders has in store for Leavenworth! STRETCH says, “Food, Art and Music can cross all cultural boundaries, and I build Grinders restaurants so people and ideas can converge.”

STRETCH had this to say about this new out of town adventure; “ My friends, fans, and even staff have been begging me to open more Grinders restaurants in their neighborhoods since day one. “Anyone who asks me about opening a restaurant, I tell them you have to be CRAZY to do it – so, what the hell does that say about me after four? Not to mention the fact that three years ago, we started serving out at Sporting Park, home of Sporting Kansas City Soccer, and this season, we added another kiosk, so we have two different Grinders stands now at the Legends arena.

Becoming a destination of choice for tourists & locals alike, is partly a result of Grinders Restaurants and Grinders Signature Hot Sauces gaining world-wide notoriety, in part thanks to owner STRETCH’s appearances on hit television shows like: Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives; Guys Big Bite;Cutthroat Kitchen; Travel Channel’s “Pizza Paradise,” Spike TV’s “Bar Rescue,” Animal Planet’s “Eating the Enemy,” Discovery Channel’s Monster House, Destination America’s BBQ Pitmasters, and even ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. In fact, one weekend after being featured on “Diners, Drive-ins & Dives,” the manager on duty reported speaking with out of state customers who drove to Grinders from eight other states.

About STRETCH;

Born Jeffrey Rumaner, but living under the internationally trademarked moniker “STRETCH,” is an Artist, Entrepreneur, Restaurateur & TV personality. He first came to Missouri to attend the Kansas City Art Institute in 1983, and in 1990, after completing his M.F.A., [Masters in Fine Arts] in sculpture at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA In 1991, he built his studio in a run down area south of downtown Kansas City, now called “The Crossroads Arts District.”

His passion for transforming this blighted neighborhood was all encompassing, as he solicited other artists, entertainers, gallery owners and entrepreneurs to move into the neighborhood and open businesses. Before STRETCH, there were two galleries, and now there are over 70. Before STRETCH, there were only 2 hamburger stands & a Mexican food restaurant in the district, and now there are over 50 restaurants. These efforts in the early days earned him the nickname, “The Mayor of the Crossroads.” He started sitting on many Boards of Directors, in 2006 was awarded the “Urban Hero Award,” by the Downtown Council of Kansas City, MO, and in 2009 was appointed to the TIF Commission.

Since STRETCH transformed the Grinders Sculpture Park into CrossroadsKC@Grinders, the concert venue created in partnership with the Lawrence based “Pipeline Productions,” nine years ago, more than a million people have passed through their gates for concerts, festivals, fundraisers and events, and when combined with the guest counts at the two adjacent Grinders Restaurants, they now receive over 500,000 visitors a year.

STRETCH has twice toured with Guy Fieri on his national “Foodapalooza Roadshow” and the South Beach Wine and Food Festival, showcasing his custom-made 25-gallon Monster Margarita Machine. In its first years of business, Grinders Signature Hot Sauces has won more than a 20 prestigious awards & honors, including 2015 Screaming Mimi’s – from the New York City Hot Sauce Expo, Peoples Choice Awards at Houston Hot Sauce Festival, multiple 2014 International Scovie Awards; appearing on CBS’s 60 Minutes, CBS New York, NBC Albuquerque, and has become available in more than a two hundred stores from coast to coast, like Bed Bath & Beyond, Price Chopper and Hy-Vee, in the Kansas City Metro Area, Sunset Foods in Chicago, Jungle Jim’s in Ohio and even the Whole Foods Markets back East. Most days, STRETCH can be seen creating new public art, chasing after his two-year-old twins, developing exciting new TV shows, launching the first of many custom built food trucks, and slow-smoking some award-winning BBQ on the National BBQ Circuit.
