Anyone who gives this place less than five stars is lying! Greatest reuben, the “Jax Rueben” I’ve ever had in my life!

Update:
We were only in town for four days and we came back a second time before we left. Grinders is the best part of KC. Change. My. Mind. If I ever come back? i will be here. Every. Night. Love this place.

I was visiting friends in KC today and we ended up at Grinders for lunch on a referral — and it was a great choice. The place was packed, but we had a wonderful server, Lou, who took excellent care of us out on the patio. She answered all our questions with fun, witty responses and kept us informed that the kitchen was running a bit slow due to the large crowd.

At Lou’s suggestion, I tried the Stretch Philly, and it was delicious — definitely worthy of its Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives recognition. We had a fantastic experience overall and will definitely be back.

My first time here and I am blown away!!! What a cute and welcoming place. This was only made better by my servers/bartenders Caitlin, and Basha. They were so funny and helpful and attentive. They gave me recommendations and made me giggle the entire time. I usually am greeted with servers that are unkind to me due to them judging me the moment I walk in, but they were so lovely to me. The food was amazing!! I got Mommy’s pastrami and it was DELICIOUS! I had a happy plate and a happy day. Thanks again!!

Grinders is an absolutely top-notch pizzeria. You feel welcome as soon as you walk in. The pizza is crispy, perfectly topped, and simply tastes fantastic – you can immediately taste the fresh ingredients and the attention to detail. The service is also pleasant and always ready to help. We'll definitely be back.

We were going to the Jazz Museum and stopped for lunch. The food was delicious. My husband ordered the cheese steak (it had corned beef added), he said it was really good. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed her Ruben. I had the Caprese, no issue to change the chicken to turkey. We shared chips and tots. Service was slow, I wanted to get a side of blue cheese and the server didn’t come back until we were finished. Clean bathrooms.

Pros:
(1) More indoor seating than pictures seemed to show
(2) Well decorated interior
(3) Fairly good prices and portion size
(4) Bacon was very well cooked

Cons:
(1) Noisy interior (needs more sound absorption
(2) Slightly too much ricotta in the calazone - lumps were slightly cold and it overall made the calzone sort of quiche-like, which I found weird and not bad but different
(3) Possibly the bacon is too sweet and overpowers the other flavors. But this one is sort of borderline and it is good bacon overall

Info:
(1) The Italian sausage and the garlic on the pizza were really all that noticeable, so you could leave them off

This place is amazing. Always one of my favorite KC spots! And Jolly’s, their holiday pop up bar is the best. I love their bar tenders. The key were so genuine and funny. They kept giving his friendly crap all night. We were great friends by the time we left. Their drinks are adorable. It’s a very cozy hidden gem. Make sure you visit Jolly’s behind grinders. I’ve never been to a concert there yet I have no idea how. But I’m excited to some day soon. They have spent a lot of time making their back patio a friendly atmosphere and well kept.

We discovered Grinder's this year, and have eaten here six times in 2025. Our favorite pizza joint used to be Old Shawnee Pizza, but we noticed their service started becoming more rude and inattentive, and their floors were filthy. I personally prefer OSP pizza (more St. Louis style) a bit more than Grinder's, by my wife likes Grinder's better (which is more like NY style).

Without a doubt, Grinders service and cleanliness is much better than that of OSP, and you can't beat the outside eating area. It's a very cool building. Out of the six times we have been to Grinder's, the service has usually been good; however, a time or two, servers sometimes seemed to forget something we asked for, or not notice when we were ready to order.

Grinders Pizza was a spot that was recommended and I’d also seen it featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, so I had to stop in for lunch.
The place has definite dive-bar vibes, which fits the atmosphere. The food was decent-pretty typical bar food.
Being from Philly, I’d say the cheesesteak was just average, but the service was great and everything came out quickly.
The booths could use more comfortable seating, but overall it was a solid stop.

This place is a KC staple for a reason. It’s got that perfect gritty charm, but let me get to the point. The Food! the Near Death Wings are the reason I keep showing up. As someone who actually likes tasty spicy, these are perfect. They give you that lip tingle, forehead sweat, warm-stomach “I may be in trouble” moment BUT they’re so damn good you don’t even care. They hurt a little, but it’s the kind of pain that makes you smile hahaha The rest of the food? Fire.
The pizza is legit. The meatball sub & the pastrami? Legit. the Trailer Park Tots… LEGIT. Grinder’s just one of those KC spots that’s always real, always good, & always makes you wanna tell folks about it. I’ve loved this place for years & I’ll keep coming back. You should to.

Seen this place on several food shows, had to give it a try. Huge selection of beers, ales, and ciders. Very friendly staff. We opted for gluten free pizza and a house salad to split. Salad was fresh and crispy, very good. Pizza was pretty good but the obviously not scratch made crust was very thick and doughy, and wasn't even cut all the way through for us. I'm sure they can do better than this, but it was just okay this time. The atmosphere reminds me of college bars where people scribble all over the walls, etc.

If you loved the location in the crossroads district your going to love this just as much. Its a combo of both sides at this one location. Very nice little play ground and outdoor patio and just like the one downtown great atmosphere.

Had a mid week lunch. It was not very busy. Cool place in a cottage looking house sitting on a good size lot without outdoor games and some interesting art decor. Inside is equally unique. You can tell the owner is a very unique person. I had the Grinders Famous South Philly, but went with chicken over steak. Sandwich is stuffed with mushrooms, peppers, onions, cheese, and jalapeños. It also came with choice of chips or tots. Philly was very solid. It’s not at the lever of a true Philly cheesecake from the NE, but still very good. Tots were just like any other tots. Waitress recommended to get Cajun seasoning on it. I couldn’t tell much difference. Overall, this is a cool funky spot with solid food and service. It looked like the bar scene was pretty good as well, although I didn’t partake in this visit.

Cool local venue. We went to lunch on a weekday and half the tables were seated (good sign, IMO). The food tasted great. My husband got the pastrami cheesesteak and bombed a side of fries. I got a double smashburger and Cajun-seasoned fries.

Weirdly enough, they charge a buck and half just to sprinkle some Cajun seasoning on the fries. I’ve never seen an establishment charge for that. Crinkle fries are my least favorite kind of fries because they tend to be undercooked, but the seasoning took it up a notch and this batch was cooked perfectly.

I also like the lettuce they used on the burger because it wasn’t a huge slab of watery iceberg like other places. Server was meh, but we got the food in a timely matter.

All in all, I recommend. They have live music events (not when we were there) so if that’s your thing, check their website and socials for those details.

I have been here before but forgot to leave a review. It is a very funky place with a wide variety of food choices. Today I had the Philly cheesesteak w fries and a slice w ham, ribeye and jalapeños. They were all top notch. A true cheesesteak on the Amaroso roll. Did not think I could eat it all but I did. Service was fast and friendly. And it was packed for a Wednesday for lunch. Good stuff, get you some.
Stopped in for a couple of slices quick. Had both pepperoni & margherita. Thin crust NY style pizza with real good flavoring. Didn't have much time, but enjoyed the food as well as the neighborhood feel of the place. No concert this visit, but will surely be back to try again!
